THE J. HERRERA KAMIN PROMISE

Hello everyone! If you’re reading this, thank you very much for visiting my website.

It being 2025, I think it is important to make a statement about authorship and creative pursuits in the modern era. This page will hopefully answer some questions you might have about my creative process and what you can expect from my fiction.

ON GENERATIVE A.I.

I do not use any generative AI tools in any of my creative pursuits — EVER. I refuse to use ChatGPT or any such amenities for anything I make. Everything you read from me is cooked up by my own blood, sweat and tears, and comes exclusively from my own mind — my own heart and soul. THIS IS THE J. HERRERA KAMIN PROMISE. And I hereby pledge to hold to this principle through thick and thin, for both my sake and yours.

When you’re reading one of my stories, or one of my books, you will never have to fear that what you’re reading was not even written by a human. You will never have to worry that it was generated by a machine while a human sat back and waited. My books are pure human-made storytelling, writ by human hand, and every single word in them is my own selection.

In other words, I build my stories word by word, like bricks being laid one at a time to build a castle. THIS WILL NEVER CHANGE. So when you see a novel like MORGANA WYND, which clocks in at 95,000 words, you know that all 95,000 of those words were laid down one at a time, and each one passed through the nexus of my creative faculties.

There is a lot of pressure in the modern world to use generative artificial intelligence tools to assist with creativity, and I reject this notion wholeheartedly. The only thing I really lose, by taking this stance, is perhaps a bit of competitive edge when it comes to the modern market. And also perhaps a bit of time. But writing fiction is SUPPOSED to take time. It’s not supposed to be expedited by off-loading human cognition onto software tools. It’s a long-form and painstaking process, and that is the only way I can see to deliver truly great stories to readers who deserve them.

I’ve heard some people (well-intentioned though they may be) suggest using ChatGPT for aspects of the process such as writing synopses of my stories when submitting to publishers. Or even brainstorming. And I reject all of this. The main issue I have with it is that things like ChatGPT have a very particular style, and I have no interest in letting my writing fall into this style. I find that these generative AI tools have the unfortunate side effect of flattening culture, of making things more generic, of stripping away the inherent uniqueness that authors are supposed to mine from their own souls.

So all in all, do not fear — you’ll find no AI here.

ON SOCIAL MEDIA

I maintain a social media presence on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, but in truth the only one of these platforms on which I feel I can adequately express myself and my creative abilities is on YouTube. I have so far resisted making a TikTok account, though I have been told that I would be able to boost sales of MORGANA WYND by getting it onto BookTok.

However, I hold a deep discomfort with social media. I am not a fan of the type of discourse that often arises on there. There is a very shallow kind of conversation that can often occur on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc., a conversation that sows and drives division between different groups of people. I despise the level of toxicity that can be found in these places, and so my approach to social media so far has been pretty hands-off. I do use these platforms to promote my work — and this promotional material is also all created piece by piece by my own creative faculties. For the sake of transparency, I can tell you that I use Photoscape X and iMovie to create most of my videos.
